At a time when women’s and gender studies, race and ethnic studies, queer studies, and critical area studies run the risk of co-optation within the neoliberal, multi- Cartographies of Knowledge and Power 27 culturalist, corporatist frame of the academy, we bear a deep responsibility to think carefully and ethically about our place in this academy where we are paid to produce knowledge, and where we have come to know that the spatiality of power needs to be made visible and to be challenged.
